Brumby's targets 50 stores

Brumby's targets 50 stores as its celebrates 10 years in NZ

August 4, 2005

Leading bakery franchise Brumby's has revealed it aims to more than double its New Zealand store numbers to 50 as its celebrates its tenth birthday in the country.

>From opening its first New Zealand franchise at Devonport in 1995, the bakery chain has grown to 21 stores with its latest store at Coastlands Shopping Town, Paraparaumu opened July 2005.

And Brumby's has interest from Invercargill, Gisborne, Tauranga, Wellington, Kerikeri to continue its expansion throughout 2005.

Brumby's New Zealand head Rachel Casley said the goal was to have 50 stores within the next five years on the back of exceptional store sales.

Our New Zealand stores are achieving 45,000 transactions per week with growth in existing store sales double the New Zealand retail average,'' Ms Casley said.

"With 80 per cent of Brumby's New Zealand stores based outside of Auckland I would expect future store openings would follow a similar trend.

"This allows us to take advantage lower rents, less competition and lower marketing costs."

Ms Casley said after a decade in New Zealand Brumby's was now serving 45,000 customers each week.

It also made available more than $2.5 worth of bread products to local charities every year.

Brumby's has 300 stores across Australia and New Zealand and is listed on the Bendigo Stock Exchange.
