Transit congratulates winning project
managers
Transit New Zealand has congratulated the managers of projects awarded high honours at last weekend’s Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand (ACENZ) Awards of Excellence.
Transit chief executive Rick van Barneveld said of particular pride was the ACENZ Special Award made to Transit for the Cost Estimation Manual project established in partnership between Transit, Transfund New Zealand (now Land Transport New Zealand) and ACENZ.
“Cost estimation is a complex and challenging job. We all wanted to improve the process and reporting of cost estimation for the entire life cycle of a project. I congratulate Transit’s Susan Chamberlain for the lead role she played in this project.
“The manual defines the risk-based approach to be adopted for the development all highway project estimates in the future. We have undertaken an extensive training programme throughout the industry in New Zealand so that people know the new roles and accountabilities required of all parties to a project,” he said.
Mr van Barneveld also congratulated Sinclair Knight Mertz for its scheme assessment work on Auckland’s Central Motorway Junction upgrading for which the company won an ACENZ Gold Award.
“This five kilometre section of highway is the busiest road in New Zealand, carrying 200,000 vehicles a day. It’s a big project and required a range of professional skills from strategy scheme assessment to environmental planning and traffic analysis.”
He said Beca Carter Hollings and Ferner’s Silver Award for its work on the Stage 1 reconstruction of Auckland’s Central Motorway Junction, as part of Transit’s Freeflow Alliance, was well deserved.
“We are also very pleased that Opus International Consultants received a merit award for Transit’s Archaeological Site Register.
“I’m very proud that Transit is associated with the calibre of professional who achieve these awards and congratulate all of them,” Mr van Barneveld said.
