Karikari Estate Pinotage ‘Best In Its Class’

1 September 2005

Karikari Estate Pinotage ‘Best In Its Class’ – Bragato Awards

Karikari Estate Pinotage 04 won Gold and ‘Best in its Class’ at the recent Bragato Wine Awards held in Gisborne. Karikari Estate was also successful in winning a Gold Medal for its Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon 04 and a Silver Medal for its Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 04. The grapes for these wines were grown on our Estate on the Karikari Peninsula.

The Bragato Wine Awards recognise the grape grower, the vineyard and excellence in viticultural practice. These awards are the only New Zealand awards which recognise the vital input growers contribute.

General Manager Mark Rose says ‘This is Karikari Estates second vintage and it’s an endorsement of the efforts of our viticulture and winemaking team’s attention to detail that we have been able to produce two gold medal winning wines’ ‘Our aim at Karikari Estate is to craft wines of the highest quality that accurately reflect the environment in which they are grown. The challenge is to cultivate classic varietals in an uncharted meso-climate using traditional methods’

“We have been fortunate on the Peninsula in that we have had three above average seasons in a row with the 2005 vintage being one further step up in the quality of fruit that was harvested in 2004.”

We would also like to congratulate another fellow producer from the Northland area, Marsden Estate and the Gold Medal they received for their Black Rocks Chardonnay 04.
