Winner takes all at $40,000 Shootout

MEDIA RELEASE
20 SEPTEMBER 2005

Winner takes all at $40,000 Shootout

Greyhound Racing New Zealand will hold one of its biggest and most unique events of the racing calendar year, the Oxy-Shot NZ Shootout, which was held for the first time last year. The race will be run on Friday 7 October 2005 and features four of New Zealand’s top trainers competing for a $40,000 prize.

In addition to the ten greyhound races to be held during the evening, on-course entertainment will also include our very own ‘shootout’ where members of the public can shoot goals to win a Playstation 2.

GRNZ chief executive Lance Bickford said the Shootout is essentially a grudge match between New Zealand’s leading trainers and is designed to highlight greyhound racing as an exciting, highly competitive sport with strong entertainment value.

“Following its great success last year, we’re delighted to be able to again run the Oxy-Shot NZ Shootout. It’s important for people to remember that greyhound racing isn’t only for those who are familiar with the racing aspect of the sport – it’s also for those who want to have a great night out and who want to experience something new,” he said.

“We’re also pleased to welcome Oxy-Shot New Zealand this year as a new sponsor of the race. Oxy-Shot are a unique life enhancement 100% natural online store supplying a revolutionary, healthy and refreshing oxygen supplement, used by many New Zealand trainers for their animals, both equine and greyhound to help boost energy levels.

“It’s great to have the support of such a well-established and innovative company and it really demonstrates the growth of the greyhound industry over the last year,” Mr Bickford said.

The final field for the big race will be announced this Friday 23 September 2005. Admission is free of charge.

The Oxy-Shot NZ Shootout will be race seven of ten being held at the Auckland Greyhound Racing Club, Manukau Stadium, Te Irirangi Drive, Manukau on Friday 7 October 2005 starting at 5.30pm.
