Harveys Auction Raises Over $11,000 for Nurse Maude Hospice

Harveys Hornby has shown there is a human face to the property business, raising over $11,000 at a recent charity auction in Christchurch.

For the second year the branch has chosen the Nurse Maude Centenary Hospice at Merivale as the beneficiary for its annual charity auction, after experiencing its work first-hand through the daughter of Harveys agent, Judith Heke-Sunnex. This latest sum brings its total contribution to the hospice in the last two years to beyond $21,000.

Last year the $10,000 raised went towards a hospital bath for the facility, which is now up and running, as requested by hospice patient Staisha Heke-Sunnex, who passed away only a week before last years event.

Over 100 people attended this year’s auction, held at the Harveys Hornby office. Harveys auctioneer Steve Morgan sold over 40 items donated by Christchurch businesses, ranging from a rugby ball signed by Daniel Carter, to a hydrotherapy spa bath donated by Phoenix Homes, which got the highest bid of $2,700.

Harveys Hornby owners Garry and Christine McIntosh were absolutely stunned at how much money the items raised. “We thought last years amount would be hard to beat. The support and generosity of local businesses was outstanding,” says Garry.
