Sassy, Sexy, Sophisticated – Meet Miss Martini

Sassy, Sexy, Sophisticated – Meet Miss Martini

She’s sassy, sexy, sophisticated and definitely cheeky. Dressed in black satin and lace, with a martini in one hand and a compact in the other, Miss Martini is a glamour girl who loves to vamp it up.

Meet Miss Martini, the character behind kiwi cosmetic company Phoenix Cosmetics’ new colour story, developed in collaboration with street artist and fashion maven Misery.

Created by Misery, the cartoon-style character Miss Martini provided the inspiration for the range and also features on the packaging.

“Miss Martini’s glamorous, slinky, sassy and wears lots of dark sparkly eye shadow, liquid liner, pink blusher and glossy red lips, so we really wanted to develop the line based on what she would like to wear. I think she really likes it!” says Misery.

The small but perfectly formed range includes black liquid eyeliner, black mascara, soft pink blusher, a range of pink and red lip glosses and lipsticks, and six deep, rich and glittery eye shadows - all very much in keeping with Misery’s trademark vampish look and sure to be a hit with Misery’s fan base.

Sharing a mutual passion for makeup, all things girly and the 1920s/30s and Victorian eras, Phoenix Cosmetics founder Phoenix Renata was the initiator, approaching Misery just over a year ago with the idea of developing a colour story together.

“I really admire Misery’s work and we share a real interest in the same things, so it made perfect sense to collaborate on a project,” says Phoenix.

Work on the range took several months, made all the more challenging with Misery’s business interests basing her overseas for much of the period. Misery focused on concept and design, and Phoenix on product development.

The pair says they were aiming to creating something a bit fun and irreverent and think the line will appeal to women with a bit of attitude, just like Miss Martini herself.

The iridescent, three-dimensional eye shadows use new technology to layer matte, glitter and pigments, creating a unique fabric-like texture. Eyes are smoky and sparkly in deep ocean blue with blue sparkles, khaki green with gold sparkles, golden brown with vanilla sparkles, dark violet with violet sparkles, dark red with crimson sparkles or black with black sparkles.

The waterproof, lengthening and strengthening mascara is designed to withstand big nights out, and the easy-to-use, quick-drying liquid eyeliner is perfect for creating dark, sultry eyes.

For evening, lipsticks are classic sex siren in three shades of matte red and three of creamy pink. Or for day or layering, the high shine, non-sticky lip glosses come in pink, raspberry and clear, each with a unique fruity scent.

The products are all hypoallergenic and not tested on animals. Prices start at $45 for eye shadows, $42 for the liquid liner, $47 for the mascara and $45 for the lipsticks.

Available from the Phoenix Cosmetics boutique, 128 Broadway, Newmarket and the Misery boutique, 202 Karangahape Road, Auckland.
