Ports of Auckland appoints Chief Operating Officer

Ports of Auckland announced today that it has appointed Jens B. Madsen to the newly-created position of Chief Operating Officer.

In this position Mr Madsen will report to Geoff Vazey, Ports of Auckland’s Chief Executive, and will be responsible for the total operations of the Company with the exception of land management.

Mr Madsen joins Ports of Auckland from A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) where he has
had a life-long career spanning 28 years. His most recent position at Maersk has been a five year period as Head of the Company's reefer business activities.

From 1996-2000 Mr Madsen was Managing Director of Maersk's New Zealand operations. During that period he established Maersk in New Zealand and developed a significant presence in the container freighting market. He has spent 18 years of his career with Maersk abroad and this has taken him in senior executive positions to Ireland and the Ukraine, and has included postings to Japan and North America

“We have the highest regard for his experience and his abilities; and above all, he knows New Zealand well from his time here as Maersk's Managing Director from 1996-2000.”

Mr Madsen will take up his position early in the New Year.
