Papamoa Residents Warned

The New Zealand Security Officers Association today warned residents in the Papamoa suburb of Mt Maunganui after receiving reports of attempted burglaries and unidentified security sales staff in the area.

On Friday afternoon of last week, a woman claiming to work for a security company in the Bay of Plenty region allegedly approached a Papamoa resident offering alarm monitoring services and alarm systems.

After the resident asked her to produce legal certification as required by law, the woman allegedly responded by saying that she did not have any but her ‘team leader was licensed.’

The woman displayed no visible identification except a badge displaying the name of the security company she claimed to work for.

One local security manager said he was concerned about the incident as the Papamoa area had been recently subject to a series of attempted burglaries.

A spokesperson for the New Zealand Security Officers Association said today, “By law, anyone entering private property for the purpose of selling security products and services must have, and be able to produce either a licence or certificate of approval. With the conviction of several uncertified guards in the past two years, it is important that property owners check this documentation so they know who they are dealing with.”
