Company with Social Conscience Wins Top Awards

Jesters Sky City Metro Supreme Franchisee Award Winner Westpac New Zealand 2005 Franchise Awards

Jesters Pies were piping hot at the 2005 Franchisee Awards winning several accolades for their healthy pies and healthy approach to business.

Judges awarded Jesters Sky City Metro The Westpac Franchisee of the Year Supreme Award and another for their Food and Beverage category of Best Overall Franchisee.

The 2005 Award winners were announced at a gala event held this week at Sky City.

Jesters Sky City Metro franchisee owner Shiraz Hajee was awarded the accolade for his commitment to understanding 'everyday New Zealand' and commended for sharing this approach with employees.

Shiraz was praised by judges for his instinctive and deep understanding of managing people, which is reflected by a long waiting list of potential employees. He was also commended for his strong "lead by example" management style and his hands-on involvement in the day-to-day running of Jesters Sky City.

Mr Shiraz says he was thrilled to have won the award and says a reward like this makes all the hard work worthwhile!

"I'm really grateful to have won this prestigious award. But any successful business is the result of a team effort. For that reason I would like to thank my staff along with the wonderful team at Jesters head office who have been instrumental in my success."

Mark Gumbrell, Jesters' Marketing Director, says he is pleased to see Jesters contribution to the community recognized in such a positive way.

Mr Gumbrell says the Jesters philosophy is about making ready-made food healthier and the awards are the "icing on the cake"

"At Jesters we are committed to providing Kiwis with healthier pies, and we have the finest quality pies available in the market," he says.

Jesters is one of the few pie companies in New Zealand that has met the Heart Foundation's requirements to carry the Pick the Tick logo on 10 of its pies.

Jesters' Tick approved pies have met strict guidelines for saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium all pies have no added preservatives, artificial colourings, flavourings or MSG.

In a bid to address the increasing problem of child obesity and Type II Diabetes the company launched the Jesters Healthy Schools Programme to encourage healthy eating in schools.

The programme provides schools with the opportunity to win $2000 worth of sporting equipment, simply by giving their students the option of healthier pies!
