Mitsubishi Target Dakar Record
Mitsubishi Target Dakar Record
Mitsubishi Motors are targeting a record breaking sixth successive Dakar Rally victory in 2006, with a team of four Pajero Evolutions.
Unbeaten since the millennium, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart have all the credentials to take the 2006 honours.
The development history of the Pajero Evolution has encompassed the Dakar Rally, formerly the Paris to Dakar Rally, for over two decades. From its inaugural race in 1983 the Pajero Evolution has proved itself as one of the fastest most reliable competitors winning the race 11 times.
The team is lead by two time winner and defending champion Stephane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret. They will be joined by the winner of the 2002 and 2003 Dakar Rallies, Hiroshi Masuoka and his co-driver Pascal Maimon. Joining the champions are Spaniard Joan 'Nani' Roma/Henri Magne and runner-ups in the 2005 event, Luc Alphand and Gilles Picard.
For the first time the Dakar rally will begin in the Portugese capital, Lisbon on New Year’s Eve. During the following 15 days the field will race through Spain where it will cross the Mediterranean to Morocco, racing its way through the Sahara desert and northern Africa to the finish in Dakar, Senegal on the 15th of January.
Limited GPS points will be available to competitors throughout most of the race, however competitors will also race stages without GPS and two marathon stages during which service assistance is not permitted.
