November was a very good month for Ports of Auckland with total container volumes* up 7% on November 2004. Full import and full export container volumes were up 5% and 11% respectively.
Total container
volumes* for the 12 months to end-November 2005 (as compared
with the 12 months to end-November 2004) were up 2% (661,885
TEUs) and full import and full export container volumes were
up 5% and 4% respectively.
Containers comprise
approximately 70% of Ports of Auckland’s throughput and
about 85% of business activity.
Breakbulk (non-containerised) volumes were up 3% to 5.0 million tonnes for the 12 months to end-November 2005 and down 12% for the month of November. Breakbulk volumes can swing significantly as a result of ships arriving just before or just after the month end.
* Container volumes are measured in TEUs
(20-foot equivalent units – or the size of a standard
20-foot container).
