Herald launches new business publication

News release

January 16, 2006

Herald launches new business publication

The New Zealand Herald is to launch a new premium business publication, The Business, on Monday 27 February to provide cutting edge-analysis and a flying start to the business week.

The weekly publication promises to provide readers with “intelligent, vibrant and incisive commentary on local and international business”, according to The Business editor Karyn Scherer.

The full colour, 32-page compact lift-out will be available in every edition of the Monday New Zealand Herald, complementing the newspaper’s daily Business Herald.

Karyn Scherer, current deputy editor of the Herald on Sunday and former associate editor of the Business Herald, will lead a dedicated editorial team which will work closely with the daily Business Herald staff.

APN National Publishing CEO Ken Steinke said the publication would be strategic and forward thinking, getting behind the daily news stories.

“The concept has been well researched among readers and advertisers,” Mr Steinke said. “There is a need for in-depth business coverage at the start of the working week.”

In addition to comprehensive coverage of the New Zealand business scene, Mr Steinke said offshore correspondents would provide international business stories of relevance to New Zealand, including a regular contribution from prestigious publication The Economist.

Mr Steinke said The Business would provide advertisers with a premium, full-colour, dedicated business environment that would “last the whole week”.

As a reporter for the Business Herald, Karyn Scherer won a number of journalism awards including the Westpac Business and Financial Journalism Award three years in a row.

Mr Steinke said she would bring an ideal mix of business, editing and general newspaper skills to the job. Ms Scherer has previously been editor of The Daily Post in Rotorua and has worked in the Press Gallery for the Evening Post.

NZ Herald account managers are accepting advertising bookings from now.
