Top Gear NZ arrives, conquers and plots even more. “Everything’s going according to plan,” states TGNZ Editor Cameron Officer, with the merest hint of super-villain menace.
Top Gear NZ, the best car lifestyle magazine Aotearoa has ever seen, has completely exceeded expectations following its first Audited Bureau of Circulation (ABC) audit results.
“You had me at ‘audited bureau’,” gushed Top Gear NZ editor Cameron Officer on Wednesday, as the figures came through. “We’re obviously really, really chuffed about the result. This is proof positive that we have an exceptional brand, an exceptional magazine and some very, very exceptional talent working with us to make it such a great title."

Gear NZ has come through with an audited circulation of
15,571. Biff! But the follow-through punch that’ll knock the
competition to the canvas is Top Gear NZ’s paid circulation
figure of 11,977. Wammo!
That puts TGNZ out in front of
NZ Auto Car (total: 12,811 / paid: 10,027) and NZ Classic
Car (total: 12,376 / paid: 12,114). In fact, this
new-kid-on-the-block is hot-on-the-heels of the number
one-selling NZ Performance Car (total: 18,762 / paid:
17,381). The as yet un-audited Driver magazine isn’t even in
the race. For the same reason NZV8 is also a
non-starter.
“We’ve already struck something of a chord with car fans,” continues Officer. “We’re building on a very loyal fan base with the magazine. We’re trying new things, approaching cars and car culture from different angles and generally stirring the pot a little. Top Gear NZ is like no other car magazine on the shelves at present. It’s coated thick with fun, irreverence and emotion… any good car should have the same inherent traits, so we reckon we’re on the right track."
The battle ain’t over though. Top Gear NZ is looking to the future with devilish plans aplenty. First on the agenda is their association with the Pukekohe round of the V8 Supercars in April, plus a planned all-comers Top Gear Track Day event (more details on that later), fantastic feature stories from our backyard and the overflowing files of the BBC and – the big one – doubling the car-orientated joy in September when Top Gear NZ goes monthly!
