Posties Join campaign For Five Day Week
Posties Join campaign For Five Day Week
This Saturday, Posties from Rotorua to Whangarei will be joining their union's campaign for a five-day week by wearing a bright black and yellow armband with the slogan "5 on 2 off".
Posties are happy to continue delivering all the mail but want to do it on week days only. Their union, the Postal Workers Federation, says this is possible under the deed of understanding between NZ Post and the government. That allows for NZ Post to shift to 5-day delivery if local communities vote in favour.
"Posties want a five-day work week because there has been a huge increase in both the volume and weight of mail carried by Posties in recent years. One day of rest simply doesn't give the body time to recover." says Mike Treen PWF organiser.
