Postal workers to rally for 5% rise

New Zealand Post workers will hold a rally in Wellington’s Manners Mall tomorrow to show just determined they are to win a decent pay rise.

The workers – many of whom earn between $12 and $14 an hour – are campaigning for a five per cent pay rise.

Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union national secretary Andrew Little said that workers remained firm in their determination to get a decent rise.

“We’ve had three days of negotiations with the company this week, and we’re now reporting back to members, but I have to say that I have never seen such a determined mood among our postal members,” he said.

“That’s why many of them will be out in the cold and rain tomorrow in Manners Mall telling the public why they are campaigning for a decent pay rise.”

Talks are scheduled to resume next Thursday. The EPMU represents 5000 New Zealand Post workers.

Meanwhile, union negotiators are reporting back to members covered by the key Metals and Manufacturing Industries Collective Agreement on negotiations held in Auckland this week.
