Budget provides major funding boost for roading infrastructure

A $13.4 billion land transport spend guaranteed in today’s Budget provides certainty for major roading infrastructure improvements and will encourage further growth in the sector, says Roading New Zealand.

The increase means Transit can fully reinstate its 10-year State Highway programme to address the transport issues that have been affecting New Zealand’s metropolitan centres, as well as improving roading nationwide.

Roading New Zealand chief executive Chris Olsen said the extra funding will ensure industry growth achieved over the last four years will continue.

“The commitment from the government to funding during the next five years means we can implement our strategy to invest in our machinery and people to help drive further industry growth,” Mr Olsen said.

“Now that Roading New Zealand has successfully gained the five year funding commitment we’ve been working towards, we can concentrate on strengthening the country’s transport infrastructure.

“The government has stuck to its word with this extra funding, and the public can look forward to major improvements in our roads as a direct result,” Mr Olsen said.
