Search for the Best of the Best in New Zealand Design

The search is on for the best of the best in New Zealand Graphic, Product and Spatial design, with entries now well underway for the 2006 BeST Design Awards.

Organised by the Designers Institute of New Zealand, the BeST Design Awards are considered to be New Zealand’s most prestigious design awards, celebrating success across the disciplines of Graphic, Product and Spatial (Interior) design.

Last year over 532 entries were received for the annual design awards. Fraser Gardyne, President of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ), said that the standard of entries had increased across all categories, with the graphics entries being the highest standard yet seen.

“Designers across the disciplines demonstrated world class design in terms of creativity, innovation and technical skill, “ said Fraser Gardyne. “Our designers also displayed the unique qualities that are winning increasing recognition for New Zealand design around the world.”

Fraser Gardyne said that this year, a new category for Sustainable Design was being included within the Product sector of the BeST Design Awards, sending out a clear message that the Designers Institute of New Zealand supports design for a sustainable environment.

Previous winners of the BeST Design Awards include Tom Skyring, of Skyring Design Ltd, for his design of the Dine by Peter Gordon restaurant; Saatchi & Saatchi for their Choices TV ONE – the colourful graphics which promote the TVNZ channel; and Icebreaker New Zealand Ltd for its Skin and Bodyfit Packaging.

Entries for the BeST Design Awards close Friday 09 June 2006, at 5pm. The Awards will be presented on Friday, August 25 2006 in Auckland.

Those wishing to enter the awards or wanting further information can visit the BeST Awards website at www.bestawards.co.nz.
