Brumby’s Warehouse Extra store

Record NZ opening for Brumby’s Warehouse Extra store

June 14, 2006

Leading New Zealand and Australian bakery franchise operator Brumby’s Bakeries Ltd today announced it had achieved a New Zealand-record opening with its first bakery within retailer The Warehouse’s new concept Extra store which was launched at Sylvia Park last week.

Brumby’s Managing Director Michael Sherlock said the new bakery, which is unique in Australasia with the concept of a ‘store within a store’ achieved first week sales figures 40 percent above any other previous Brumby’s store opening in New Zealand.

“This remarkable result is very encouraging for Brumby’s plans to expand its partnership with The Warehouse as the Extra stores are rolled out across New Zealand,” said Mr Sherlock who is speaking at the NZ MidMarket CEO Symposium in Auckland this week.

“We currently have 22 franchisees across New Zealand and this partnership will further add to our share of the bakery sector.

“At present we have three bakeries at the entry to Warehouse stores and they have been trading exceptional well so this new partnership is very exciting and has immense potential.”

Brumby’s bakery is situated inside the front entrance of The Warehouse Extra store at Sylvia Park.

“We do our baking on site daily, and our breads are all preservative free, so we fit well with The Warehouse Extra’s aim of offering customers the best fresh food all the time,” said Mr Sherlock.

“The bakery also stocks a range of pies, muffins, doughnuts and savouries.”

Brumby’s – which currently has 317 stores across New Zealand and Australia – would continue to investigate suitable opportunities in other countries.

“We have already signed a memorandum of understanding in the Middle East and in the past 12 months we have conducted pre-entry studies and held discussions with potential master franchisees in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Fiji, and South Africa,” Ms Casley said.

Brumby’s is listed on the Bendigo Stock Exchange.
