NevaAlone medical alert alarms offer peace of mind

Media Release

ADT’s NevaAlone medical alert alarms offer peace of mind during dangerous winter months

June 14: Winter can be a dangerous time of year for the elderly and disabled, with the chances of suffering from a fall five times more likely than any other time of year.*

Many elderly folk prefer to remain independent, continuing to live at home, but know they risk serious injury if they slip or fall while alone. According to ACC statistics, one third of people aged 65 or older will fall at least once this year.

ADT reports there is a dramatic increase in call-outs to falls during the winter months.

ADT’s spokesperson, Aaron Kedzlie, says falls are the most common reason for a call-out, with a very marked increase during winter.

“Winter is a busy time, with the cold and wet weather making conditions especially difficult. We receive more calls during this time than any other time of the year.”

“We find the majority of our call-outs are for clients that have slipped or fallen over and cannot get up. As the alarm can be worn on the body it is easy to activate, even when the wearer has fallen.

Kedzlie says the system allows the elderly and disabled to live independently, knowing help is close at hand should it be needed. It’s a great option for those who want peace of mind and a real sense of security as they go about their everyday tasks.

The ADT NevaAlone medical alert system is connected to ADT’s security monitoring centre, where trained operators are ready 24 hours a day. Once an alarm has been activated and the monitoring centre alerted, an ambulance is despatched for immediate assistance. Family and friends are also notified.

“Having an ADT NevaAlone medical alert installed offers our clients peace of mind at all times, no matter what activity they might be doing,” said Kedzlie.
