Independent Broadcaster Signed

Broadcast Communications Ltd. (BCL) is delighted to have signed up its first independent broadcaster for advance reservation of digital television space on the new digital television platform announced by government last month.

BCL is currently working closely with a number of television broadcasters to plan the deployment of both digital satellite and digital terrestrial services in the next 12-18 months.

BCL’s Managing Director Geoff Hunt (CEO of the THL Group) says the team is thrilled with the amount of interest that has been flooding in from a range of niche and regional broadcasters.

“Since the announcement about digital television in June, our account managers have been inundated with calls from prospective customers wanting to take up capacity on both the terrestrial and satellite platforms.

“We think the level of interest, and the diversity of broadcasters expressing their interest, indicates that free-to-air digital television will be as successful here as it has been in the U.K. There will be a good variety of new and exciting channels that New Zealanders will love.

“At this stage, channels on either platform are still available but allocation will be very much on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis,” says Hunt.
