New calendar helps families: helps schools

New calendar helps families: helps schools

When Amanda Wilson - a busy mum of two – started forgetting her daughter’s social engagements, she knew she needed some help with organising her family’s time. She started using an organising calendar with a column for each member of the family but then found it difficult to purchase another one the following year, so there was no alternative - she had to produce one herself. Graphic designer Grant Masters and his daughter Alice came to her aid, creating an attractive easy-to-use family organiser made exclusively for New Zealand families, called the On the Wall Calendar.

Seeing an opportunity to help ease other families’ organisational difficulties, the newly-formed team at On the Wall thought this would be a great product to sell directly to schools. “I thought there must be other families out there who need this calendar,” said Amanda, “ so it made sense to market it directly to schools, and family support organisations like Plunket – and in the process, help them out too by making it a fundraising idea.” They decided that a generous $5 from each calendar sold should go towards the school or group selling it – or if an individual buys one via the website, the donation would go to Plunket.

“As a busy mum who carries the organisation of the family, trying to co-ordinate the logistics of everyone’s needs is sometimes daunting,” says Amanda. “With the On the Wall Calendar, all your information is in one place, readily visible for the whole family. No more double-bookings or missed appointments for us now. Also, It’s really easy for schools to sell the calendars to their families because they are a high quality product that is extremely useful at an affordable price - $25 - and they look good too, people will enjoy having one on their wall for a whole year.”

On the Wall and have already begun to market the calendar. “The response has been amazing” said Alice, “I’ve had quite a few conversations with people desperate to have a calendar right now – they can’t wait until the new year!”
On the Wall have also got some more ideas up their sleeves for helping out families whilst helping schools or groups. “We’re planning to produce a few more family-oriented fundraising products,” Amanda explains, “ keep an eye on our website for details – www.onthewall.co.nz”.
