Credit Unions Celebrate at their 44th Annual Conference

NEW PLYMOUTH, THURSDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2006 - The New Zealand Association of Credit Unions proudly celebrates its 44th Annual Conference in New Plymouth. Over 200 delegates are attending the event, which features a host of impressive speakers, social functions and the annual awards dinner.

Doug McLaren, Chief Executive of the Association says the theme of this year’s Conference, “Meet the Challenge” will be reflected in the line up of speakers who will inform and inspire the delegates.

“Hon. Lianne Dalziel, Minister of Commerce, will address our Member Credit Unions and many will be eager to hear what she has to say about the Review of Financial Products and Providers that will change the way the non-bank finance sector operates in New Zealand,” he says.

A special guest to the event is Pete Crear, CEO, World Council of Credit Unions Inc. (WOCCU). WOCCU represents 157 million people in 42,705 Credit Unions in 92 countries. Mr Crear has come from Wisconsin, USA to attend the Conference.

“The annual Conference is a chance for the busy Credit Unions across the country to come together and celebrate their success over the past year and to plan and prepare for the exciting changes ahead,” says Mr McLaren.

Peter Tennent, the Mayor of New Plymouth will open the Conference on Friday, 15 September, and Credit Union Taranaki has organised a special opening ceremony featuring a New Zealand celebrity from Taranaki.
