New Fashion Label Aiming For Global Congregation

New Fashion Label Aiming For Global Congregation

The label is called Stitch Ministry, the first collection is called Resurrection, and much of the new print collection is adorned with the high symbolism of worship. But fans of Kylee Davis’ unique take on knitwear and wovens will know that the real religious experience lies in the garments themselves.

New Zealand fashion welcomes the return of one of its most respected designers with the launch of Stitch Ministry – the brainchild of Insidious Fix founder and Director Kylee Davis and new business partner Jason Gitmans.

Stitch Ministry combines the pair’s many years of experience in the fashion and textile industries to create a formidable new duo. And it’s their collective insight that has allowed for the formation of a new label that combines Kylee’s eye for high-end design with Jason’s global approach to business.

But what is it all about? Kylee explains that while fashion watchers will appreciate the complexities of the label’s creativity, the entire process culminates in a very simple ideal.

“Stitch Ministry is simply about creating a provocative and sophisticated fashion experience that combines design and style with form and fit,” she says.

“We don’t believe that fit and fashion are mutually exclusive terms, in fact our intentionally ambiguous approach to design allows for greater flexibility for our customers. We encourage our fans to wear our garments any way they want to – that is what the core concept of fashion should be.”

Keen followers will have much to choose from in Stitch Ministry’s debut collection, Resurrection. Kylee’s versatile talents have been put to good use to create a diverse range that can take the wearer from workday cool, to evening chic, to weekend casual and everywhere in between.
Stitch Ministry’s Resurrection collection is definitely for the fashion conscious with its wide range of styles and colours - classic winter chocolates, charcoals, phantom purples and icy greys contrasted with splashes of electrifying bright violet and cobalt to appeal to the more fashion forward and daring individuals.

More specifically the garment range consists of cute and sexy knits through to contemporary and fun street-wear wovens including t-shirts and hoodies with printing and embroidered appliqué techniques. The tees can be teamed with a pair of enzyme washed vintage looking shorts worn over merino leggings to compliment the contemporary designer street boutique aesthetic. The collection also consists of numerous flattering-cut merino dresses - accompany with a pair of boots and tights during the day or heels for the evening.

And which garments are the designer’s faves?

In wovens it has to be Corpse Bride. Inspired by winter city streets, Kylee combines scrunched metal wool with exaggerated hem lengths, a moody plaid and gunmetal buttons all rolled out in a flattering empire cut and completed with trainers or flats for a hot high fashion-meets-street look.

For knitwear fans Justice of the Piece offers sophistication and sex appeal in a fashion forward garment easily teamed with man-style tailored pants or skinny jeans and heels. It’s the one outfit to take you from the boardroom to the bar.

The collection is evidence of the success of Stitch Ministry’s team approach. Having Jason Gitmans concentrating on the strategic and back-end sides of the business has afforded Kylee greater opportunity to focus her attention on the creative direction of the brand – and it shows.

Stitch Ministry has already developed serious interest from global markets but local fans certainly won’t be missing out. The team is also looking to broaden its outlook early, collaborating with other industries to connect with an even wider audience. That collaboration has already begun with young artist Gene Kirkpatrick’s voodoo–inspired prints a standout in the debut collection.

“This is a big idea and one which we believe we can take to the world,” says Kylee. “Stitch Ministry is not just intended to be another fashion label – it’s meant to be a real fashion movement that connects forward-fashion followers all over the globe, and it is exciting to be back creating and producing high quality affordable garments that inspire.”
