Sealegs Scores Big in Southampton — Again

Auckland, 11 October 2006: New Zealand marine manufacturer and exporter Sealegs International, has enjoyed further success in the historic English port city of Southampton.

Eighteen months after securing its first UK order for a Sealegs amphibious rigid inflatable boat, Chief Executive David McKee Wright has just returned from the 2006 Southampton Boat Show with orders for a further seven Sealegs patent pending craft, representing around NZ$ 500,000 in forward revenue.

According to Mr McKee Wright, the Sealegs stand attracted considerable consumer and trade interest as a result of its record English Channel crossing for an amphibious craft last year. “There is no doubt the television and press coverage Sealegs received from that successful crossing has helped our marketing efforts,” he says. “These latest orders lift our total sales in the UK to over 20 boats in the last 18 months.”

He also reports strong interest at the show from potential customers and re-sellers in other parts of Europe. “We are definitely now getting onto the recreational and lifestyle radar across Continental Europe,” he says.

Sealegs was also the focus of a positive four-page boat test in the October edition of the prestigious UK RIB International Magazine which said in terms of “quality build Sealegs could not be faulted.” The reviewer was also struck “how a little New Zealand company had overcome so many problems to produce this capable and well balanced amphibious boat.”

Mr McKee Wright says all the signs out of the UK are “most encouraging, with our agent Nick Fox (Amphibious UK Ltd) forecasting to increase sales in 2007 by up to 50%.”
