Second Gold Medal for Kawarau Estate Reserve Chardonnay

Kawarau Estate is proud to announce that its 2004 Reserve Chardonnay was one of only 19 Gold Medals awarded at the Gisbourne International Chardonnay Challenge – the second gold medal in as many months for this wine which is in addition to Huon Hooke’s rating of 96/100 last May.

With previous vintages of our Reserve Chardonnay having been awarded Silver medals at International Wine Shows in London, this latest accolade is confirmation that there is more to Kawarau Estate and Central Otago than just Pinot Noir.

To date, both domestically and internationally, both Kawarau Estate and Central Otago has been heralded for its Pinot Noirs, our own Reserve Pinot Noir having received gold for the previous five vintages. However, this latest success with our Reserve Chardonnay is evidence Kawarau Estate can produce consistently high quality white varietals worthy of the same recognition. Kawarau Estate is one of few Central Otago producers to have won gold medals for the Sauvignon Blanc variety.

In addition to our Reserve Chardonnay, we have recently released two other white varietals - our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc & 2006 Pinot Gris - all of which are, as with our Pinot Noir, single vineyard wines from organically grown vines that are up to 15 years old.
