Kim Crawford Wines Forget The Oak and Grab Gold

Kim Crawford Wines Forget The Oak and Grab Gold

Kim Crawford Wines are celebrating their 2006 Air New Zealand Wine Awards results, winning an outstanding six gold medals and collecting an astonishing haul of medals 30 from the 40 Kim Crawford wines entered.

Kim Crawford said "Six golds and thirty medals overall is a great follow up for our winemaking team after winning Champion Wine of Show at the same competition last year." In 2005 Kim Crawford Wines made show history winning Champion Wine of Show with a Sauvignon Blanc for the first time since the awards began in 1988. Taking four gold medals for Sauvignon Blanc, consolidates Kim Crawford Wines reputation as a leading producer of the NZ wine industry's biggest selling and most commercially critical wine.

To Company Principal and Co-Founder Erica Crawford, gold medals for two distinct styles of Chardonnay is particularly encouraging. Erica Crawford said "Two things in particular stand out for me from these awards. Firstly, winning a gold for our unoaked chardonnay is great news. But especially pleasing is that success for an elegant and understated wine. This is wine that wine drinkers love, but wine industry insiders often overlook. Our unoaked Chardonnay has opened doors and markets for our portfolio worldwide and I'm thrilled to see the judges reward a wine that wine drinkers have long taken to their hearts."

"The best news for the wine drinker" Erica Crawford said "is that getting gold medals for two of our most widely distributed and freely available wines, the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Unoaked Chardonnay, means consumers can get out today and buy a gold medal wine from Kim Crawford for well under $20."
