New Zealand Hotel Council Elects Chairman and Board Member

At a recent meeting of the New Zealand Hotel Council Executive the Board elected Chris Parkin as its national Chairman. Parkin is a well known and well respected businessman and is proprietor of the Museum Hotel Wellington. Mr Parkin is also Chair of the NZHC Wellington Region.

At the same meeting Brendan Taylor, Managing Director of Scenic Circle Hotels, was elected as a Board member. Mr Taylor has 29 years experience in the hotel sector in both New Zealand and the South Pacific. NZHC Chair Chris Parkin said that Brendan’s experience and understanding of the hotel sector in New Zealand will help ensure that NZHC continues to provide leadership in the advocacy of the hotel and tourism sector.

“The New Zealand Hotel Council is entering a real growth phase in its continuing evolution, with a number of key projects underway. Amongst other things we are soon to announce a new recruitment initiative that will have an international reach and will be an exciting ‘hub’ to help young people plan for a structured career in the New Zealand hotel sector. This together with our National Hotel Corporate Training diploma courses means that our members will be very well placed to meet the continual challenges of ensuring that New Zealand remains a truly world class tourist destination.”

About NZHC :

- Represents the interests of New Zealand’s international chain, large independent, privately-owned and boutique hotels around the country.

- 120 members, largely in the five main tourism centres (Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown), account for around 80% of total hotel capacity and close to 100% of ‘large hotel’ inventory.

- Collectively, NZHC members operate approximately 16,000 hotel rooms, control assets with a capital value in excess of NZD2.5 billion, generate annual revenue over NZD760 million and employ nearly 9,000 full and part time staff.

- NZHC is an Incorporated Society with an elected Board of four NZ-based heads of international chains and the chairmen of the five regional groups – Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown. CEO is ex-officio.
