National Wendy Hill Makeup Student Competition

NZ's top makeup student named

Kapiti beauty services student Roimata Cook has been named New Zealand's top makeup student for 2006.

Roimata, a student at the Whitireia Polytech's Kapiti Campus, has won the 2006 Wendy Hill Makeup National Student Award for Professional Photographic Bridal Makeup.

She was one of more than 250 beauty therapy and beauty services students from throughout New Zealand who took part in the competition, which is made available through the country's leading beauty training institutions.

The competition was developed by Wendy Hill Makeup, New Zealand's leading boutique makeup range, in association with industry educators to assist in the support of student studies and the upskilling of makeup skills in the beauty profession generally.

Wendy Hill says all entries received in the competition were of a good standard, but Roimata's entry best fitted the criteria of a lovely bridal makeup and a good photographic result.

"Roimata's makeup is well balanced, and she has skillfully used tones that are well suited to her model's colouring, enhancing her features but not overpowering them," she says. "She has chosen and very evenly applied camouflage and foundation that perfectly match her model's skin; the eyebrows are particularly well done; the eye makeup is well blended and balanced to enhance and project the model's brown eyes, and the eyeliner is subtle and perfectly even, so it photographs well.

"She has used just enough blusher to balance the model's face and warm her skin tone, and the lips have just enough shimmer to make her sparkle for her special occasion. The overall effect is a fresh, pretty and natural makeup that suits the model very well, and Roimata can be justifiably proud of her achievement."
