Suzuki Swift Number One Selling Supermini
Suzuki Swift Number One Selling Supermini In
New Zealand

The award-winning Suzuki Swift was the top selling supermini in New Zealand for 2006.
Official New Zealand registration figures confirm the trendy Swift was a clear winner in the expanding supermini segment for the second successive year and New Zealand’s best selling sub 1.8 litre model range.
Its number one position in a competitive sector of the market underscored the approval voiced by New Zealand car buyers.
Suzuki sold a record 2,060 new Swifts last year, placing the five-door model comfortably ahead of the Honda Jazz (1,916) and Toyota Yaris (1,795).
Overall, the Swift was the third best selling model in December, beaten only by the larger Toyota Corolla and Holden Commodore.
The Suzuki was the sixth best seller for the year, up from eleventh in 2005, and scooped a remarkable 4 per cent of the total new car market in December.
The cleanly styled, European-inspired five-door Swift hatchback was clearly the best selling supermini in New Zealand last year, building on a superb sales performance from 2005.
Widely acclaimed and admired worldwide for its style, mechanical excellence and on road performance, the new generation Swift has been a firm favourite with New Zealand car buyers since its introduction in early 2005.
It is Suzuki’s best selling model, helping to push the make to record levels last year.
Suzuki ended 2006 on a high note, with 308 passenger car registrations in December, a 14 per cent improvement on the same month in 2005.
Demand for the Swift was further boosted in the final quarter of 2006 by the arrival of the high performance Sport version with a larger capacity engine, bigger diameter alloy wheels and uprated mechanicals.
New Zealand sources its Swifts from Japan, but the world model is also produced in Hungary, India and China.
International consumer response to the Swift is high, with many markets struggling to meet demand.
With recommended retail pricing starting from $19,400, the Swift is available with either 1.5 or 1.6 litre engines and the choice of manual or automatic transmissions.
