World First Sale In New Zealand

World's first sale of new Microsoft Windows Vista will be here in New Zealand

Auckland, January 27, 2007: New Zealand's Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse outlets will be the first stores in the world to sell the long-awaited Windows Vista computer operating system.

The vast electronics stores in Manukau and Hamilton will open at midnight on Monday night to be first in the world when Windows Vista goes on sale on January 30.

Dick Smith Electronics New Zealand general manager Stu Meadows says that being first in the world is a comfortable place for New Zealanders.

"We've always been a nation that adopts technology early, and there's no reason to stop now," he said.

"Windows Vista is a new generation computer operating system, bringing together PCs, home entertainment and gaming and we know that people are keen to get their hands on it."

The first computer loaded with Windows Vista will be sold to sports star Dan Carter at the Manukau store, and will be donated for sale on Trade Me to raise money for the Cure Kids charity.

The Manukau gala night will also feature a prize draw for $15,000 worth of products; huge discounts on many products, including 10 per cent off and a free copy of the new Microsoft Office 2007 home and student editions on the sale of PCs and notebooks; the Vista Lounge simulated digital home; gaming in the X-box truck; and free coffee and sausages.

Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse stores are at 5 Ronwood Ave, Manukau (near the Manukau City Centre) and at 4 Thackeray St in Hamilton.

Windows Vista will go on sale in the other 63 Dick Smith Electronics stores across New Zealand when they open on Tuesday morning.
