World’s
first Windows Vista about to be sold – in
NZ
Preparations are under way for the world’s first
sales of the new Microsoft Windows Vista computer operating
system in Manukau and Hamilton tonight.
The system goes on sale around the world on January 30, and Dick Smith Electronics Stores in Manukau and Hamilton will open on the stroke of midnight to take advantage of New Zealand’s position as the closest country to the international dateline.
Dick Smith Electronics New Zealand general manager Stu Meadows said that it was difficult to know how many people would turn at tonight, but the first system would be sold to Dan Carter, who would donate for auction for the Cure Kids charity.
“There are lots of people keen to get their hands on Windows Vista, and we think it’s wonderful that the very first system sold anywhere in the world will be used to raise money for sick children,” he said.
