Top Awards for Young Central Otago Winery

Top Awards for Young Central Otago Winery

Wild Earth Wines, one of the new generation of Central Otago winemakers, has taken two major pinot noir awards at the Sydney International Wine Competition 2007. The winery’s 2005 Pinot Noir has earned a Top 100 award, ranking in the top 5% of all wines entered in the competition, while the 2004 vintage secured a Blue Gold Medal, granted only to wines placed in the top ten percent of the 2,000 wines entered.

The Sydney competition is unique in tasting wines with food – thus ensuring the most realistic of all judging environments. The Top 100 Award winner, Wild Earth Pinot Noir 2005, is a leading contender for the pinot noir trophy, to be announced in early March at a gala dinner in Sydney. Wild Earth Wines owner, Quintin Quider, is delighted with the awards: “We have two outstanding vineyards and a small, dedicated team who have worked very hard to make these results possible. This result is exciting, but we know that we will only get better from here”.

Wild Earth Wines is a family owned winery, located at the end of Felton Road in Bannockburn, Central Otago. Established in 1998, it has produced wines under the Wild Earth label for only three vintages. Its wines are entirely estate grown, are available in top restaurants and fine wine outlets in New Zealand and are now exported to international markets including the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
