TranzAlpine carries most passengers ever in one week
The TranzAlpine train service between Christchurch and Greymouth has just recorded its biggest week ever carrying in excess of seven thousand passengers.
In November the service will celebrate its 20th anniversary and has gone from strength to strength since those humble beginnings with over two hundred thousand passengers a year enjoying what is now looked upon as one of New Zealand’s iconic tourism experiences.
Also last week the TranzAlpine recorded its largest one-day return carrying over eleven hundred people.
Tranz Scenic's South Island Manager Tony McManus says ”staff are obviously delighted at the support given to the service but says its not surprising when you look at the stunning scenery it transverses as it makes its way through the South Alps to the West Coast. “
Toll New Zealand took over Tranz Scenic 3 years ago and since then has implemented a carriage refurbishment programme and increased the marketing of all services including the TranzAlpine.
