500 Kiwis A Day Join The Warehouse Christmas Club

Kiwis dreaming of a debt-free Christmas

Auckland, 6th March 2007 - In the first six weeks since launching, over 500 New Zealanders per day have signed up to get something extra for Christmas this December by joining The Warehouse Christmas Club.

With an initial five dollars, customers can join and receive an electronic Christmas Club card that they keep topping up throughout the year. When December arrives, the money on the card becomes redeemable for anything at The Warehouse - with 5% off.

"With the emphasis on budgeting and staying out of debt, we thought it would be a good idea to give our customers a tool to help them prepare for the Christmas season," Ian Morrice, Warehouse Group CEO, says. "We encourage our checkout operators to ask customers if they want to put their loose change on their card."

Once a customer puts money on their card, it cannot be touched until December, removing the temptation to raid the Christmas piggy bank before the festive season.

"Overall we aim to make Christmas easier and more affordable for Kiwi families all over New Zealand," adds Mr Morrice. "With a card, you don't have to keep track of vouchers or coupons, you just have to remember to top it up at any checkout as you go through the store. You can check the balance at any time too. Very simple."

There is a $5000 limit to the amount of money that can be placed on the card, with the minimum top-up amount being two dollars.
