Hotel Manager Continues Rise Through Ranks

A senior manager with ten years’ experience in the hotel industry in Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown is continuing his rise through the ranks of the Accor hotel group.

Richard Mackley, who has been Executive Assistant Manager at the Novotel Gardens Queenstown for the past 14 months, is moving to the position of Executive Assistant Manager at the five-star Sofitel Queenstown.

Mr Mackley, 30, joined the Accor hotel group and started his management traineeship at Novotel Auckland, before moving to assistant manager positions at Queenstown’s St Moritz Novotel Suites and the Hotel Ibis, Wellington.

He then moved to the Novotel Capital Wellington for a year before returning to Queenstown to work in a series of positions at the Grand Mercure St Moritz and finally at the Novotel Gardens Queenstown.

At Novotel Gardens Queenstown he has been responsible for management of daily hotel operations, sales and marketing, and the performance management of department heads.

Mr Mackley said he thrived on working in the busy but exciting resort environment of Queenstown and was looking forward to his new role with a luxury five-star hotel.

“It’s been an exciting and challenging time to be at Novotel Gardens Queenstown as the property undergoes an $11.5 million expansion, and I have very much enjoyed helping run one of Queenstown’s largest hotels,” he said.

“However, I am delighted to be staying in Queenstown to work with the team at Sofitel Queenstown in only its second year of operation.

“Career progression and training is something that Accor does really well and I’m pleased to be able to continue to work for this strong international brand.”

Mr Mackley will take up his new position at Sofitel Queenstown on March 12.
