Kahawai Decision
Kahawai Decision
22nd March 2007
“The seafood
industry will be giving further consideration to the
decision in order to assess every implication of the
judgement,” said Owen Symmans, chief executive of the New
Zealand Seafood Industry Council.
“We support the finding that there needs to be effective management of the total fishery, not just for the commercial sector, which is what the seafood industry has long advocated.
“The decision instructs the Minister to readdress the allocation issues but does not state that the Minister necessarily has to make a reallocation,” said Mr Symmans.
