Open Letter: NZ Apple Access to Australia

Email to Joanna Hewitt, Secretary, The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry from the Australain Apple Action Group

Give Us Hope Joanna
And let our apples in Aussie!
Dear Joanna

RE: New Zealand Apple Access to Australia

New Zealand Apple Growers need you to please sign the Final Policy Determination on exporting apples to Australia which is now in your hands.

Until you sign this, it is impossible for both countries to commence work on a mutually agreeable “Standard Operating Procedure”.

Signing the final policy determination starts the next step in the process of getting New Zealand apples into Australia.

We have been told this document is gathering dust in your office awaiting your signature and New Zealand apple growers now feel that it is time for you to demonstrate that you are prepared to act in good faith

If this document is not signed within the next five days we won’t have enough time to start trying to meet your import demands for next season.

All appeals from Australian growers were rejected on February 27, 2007, so we can see no reason why you have not signed the document. If you cannot sign this document we need to know why not?

We can only assume you are playing the same game as your Australian apple growers in using further delaying tactics to keep us out.

You will see that this is an open email to New Zealand and Australia journalists because the only way we have got results in the past is by taking it to the media.

Give us hope Joanna, dip your pen in the ink and sign the dotted line.

Regards

The Australian Apple Access Group
