Southern Fillies Series Wide Open
The second leg of the four-race New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series was dominated from start to finish yesterday, with One Love (Danasinga x Jackie O') securing the points in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Stakes (1400m) at Wingatui.
Hayden Tinsley sped One Love out of the gates to the lead from her wide barrier draw and never looked like being beaten, easing down at the line to score by two-and-a-half lengths from Grace Park (Danske x Stella Stargazer) with favourite Tantalise (Postponed x Amora) one-and-a-half lengths away in third.
One Love now shares the lead in the Series with Dorabella (Postponed x Caserio) both on seven points. However, with Dorabella currently spelling, One Love has plenty of opportunity to gain the outright lead when she contests the third race in the Series, the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes (1600m) at Riccarton on 21 April.
One Love is trained at Riccarton Park by Shane Kennedy and Ricky Carston. Kennedy confirmed, "She'll definitely go for the mile [the third race in the Series] and possibly the mile and a quarter [final race in the Series]."
This was the filly's third win from seven starts.
Grace Park now sits third-equal on the leader board with 3 points and Tantalise fifth-equal.
Three-year-old fillies have two more opportunities to get points on the board in the Series - in the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Airfreight Stakes (1600m) to be held at Riccarton on 21 April, and the New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (2000m) on 5 May at the same course.
