New Zealand’s Top Eight Tradies To Battle It Out In The Final Of The Mitre 10 Mega Jack Of All Trades Compettion
From over 100 entries and two tightly contested Island finals, New Zealand’s top eight tradies have been discovered and will compete for the national title of New Zealand’s best all round tradie in Auckland this weekend.
In what was a very close North Island final, Whitby Electrician Michael Webster, won the competition, showcasing his varied skills across the six challenges which ranged from; designing and building a letter box, building a brick fence to tiling and sealing.
The weekend’s
competition saw Webster running neck-to-neck with Taradale
Builder, Warwick Beckett, with only three points between the
two on the final scoreboard. Both contestants automatically
qualify to go through to the final at Mitre 10 MEGA Botany,
Auckland this weekend.
Webster and Beckett stood out
from the rest of the field with a 20 point gap to third
place, impressively taken out by the competitions only
female contestant, ‘Jill Of All Trades’, Kirsten Dabble
from Upper Hutt.
Project Manager of the Mitre 10 MEGA
Jack of all trades event, Stu Stevens, says “Kirsten was
the big surprise as she showed that she is very competitive,
and demonstrated that the challenge rounds are a test of
skill rather than strength”.
Webster and Beckett join
the two highest scoring South Island contestants, James
Williamson from Timaru and Scott Evans from New Brighton.
The additional four contestants have been selected from the
two finals and include:
Kirsten Drabble – Lower
Hutt
John ‘Horse’ McLeod – New Plymouth
Dave
McClean – Porirua
Daniel Saunders – Rolleston
All
the sports-style tradie action and its hardware stars will
then hit the screen, with the Mitre 10 MEGA Jack of All
Trades competition being broadcast by TVNZ in June
2007.
