Seeking New Zealand’s hottest hair stylists
Who are New Zealand’s hottest young hair stylists? And what influence will they have on your style in 2007?
These questions and more will be answered with the launch of Talent Spotting, the search for the nation’s next big name in hairdressing.
L’Oréal Professionnel is hosting the hottest night on the New Zealand hairdressing calendar in 2007 – and it’s the first time the event has been held outside the UK.
“Talent Spotting is a platform for stimulating new styles and great ideas for fashion followers” says L’Oréal Professionnel general manager Anya Haarhoff.
“Talent Spotting is not just a competition – it’s a chance for the new generation of young hairdressers from around the country to showcase their creativity and innovation under the glare of the dynamic world of session styling, fashion and media.
“It’s a great way for junior and intermediate stylists to accelerate their careers and gain valuable national exposure,” Ms Haarhoff says.
While Talent Spotting takes centre stage in 2007, Ms Haarhoff says the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards will be held every two years, alternating with the new award.
Talent Spotting is open to hairdressers with five years or less experience in the industry and there are two categories: Young Stylist of the Year and Young Team of the Year.
Competitors are judged on submitted entries and the six top individual entries and three top team entries compete in regional finals events in five centres – Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
The regional competitions culminate in the national final at the end of June.
In addition to the two main categories, every finalist is automatically considered for two further awards: the National Trend Award, where the judges seek a “look for tomorrow” and the National Editorial Award, for a look that is suitable for creation in salons, integrating hair, fashion, make-up and photographic direction
The Young Stylist of the Year wins a place on the L’Oréal Professionnel ID artist team, international travel to Hair Expo 2008 in Australia, free L’Oréal Professionnel education as well as a professional photo shoot for a leading New Zealand consumer magazine.
The L’Oréal Professionnel ID Artist team is comprised of upcoming talented young stylists, giving them the opportunity to work with leading stylists in the industry at prestigious events such as NZ Fashion Week and NZ Music Awards.
Entrants in the Young Team of the Year compete for travel prizes and a fashion and beauty prize pack valued at nearly $4,000.
The Trend Style and Editorial Style Award winners receive fashion and entertainment prizes valued at $600.
