Funding already in place
to give certainty to Western Ring Route
project
Transit’s decision to abandon the WRR toll proposal and ‘investigate’ alternative funding options to achieve the 2015 completion “creates doubt where none is needed.”
Most of the Western Ring Route can be completed ahead of 2015 using the 5-year funding guarantee provided by Government in last year’s Budget, said Michael Barnett, chief executive of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Other options include a regional petrol tax and conventional funding.
With an annual benefit to the economy of $830 million and giving an alternative option to gridlocked southern motorway completion is a no brainer.
