NZ’s Blanket Bay Features on Insider Special

Media Release from Blanket Bay

New Zealand’s Blanket Bay Features on Insider Special

New Zealand luxury tourism is coming of age it seems, with multi-award winning Blanket Bay Lodge selected by Discovery Channel as the best lodge in the world.

Part of a ten programme five-star insider special being aired worldwide by Discovery Travel and Living Channel, the luxury Queenstown lodge flies the New Zealand flag high alongside the world’s best castle, ship, train, spa, safari camp, island and hotel in other countries.

The 30-minute Blanket Bay special will broadcast in New Zealand and Australia on 24 April at 8.30pm on Discovery Channel, having already aired in South East Asia, Europe and Latin America.

The world’s top ten exclusive destinations feature Australia’s Silky Oaks Lodge, Ireland’s Ashford Castle, Miraval Spa in the US, Mediterranean’s Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Thailand’s Eastern and Orient Express, India’s Oberoi Udaivilas, United Arab Emirates’ Burj Al Arab, Tanzania’s CC Africa and New Zealand’s Blanket Bay – the first in the series to be filmed over three days a year ago.

Blanket Bay was selected for its magnificent setting and luxurious accommodation as well as its proximity to Queenstown, a premier four season alpine and lake resort.

Blanket Bay General Manager Philip Jenkins said the programme offered a fantastic opportunity to profile Queenstown and New Zealand to the world’s high end traveller.

“This programme has millions of viewers worldwide and offers publicity that as a destination New Zealand could not afford to buy. It gives us the opportunity to demonstrate to the international market that New Zealand tourism is savvy and sophisticated and stands on its own amongst the world’s top tourist choices,” he said.

“It shows that our laid back and friendly tourism service is of a level that can exceed the expectations of even the more experienced traveller, not only when it comes to scenery and activities, but also by delivering the highest possible standards of accommodation and hospitality service.”

This recognition tops off a fantastic six months for Queenstown’s alpine lodge on the shoes of Lake Wakatipu, named as one of the world’s best hotels for food in the prestigious 2007 Conde Nast Traveller Gold List last December.
