Rural Communities Trust University Scholarships for Rural Students
The Rural Communities Trust and Transpower NZ Ltd have announced the Transpower Tertiary Scholarship grants awarded to rural students for 2007.
Grants are to assist young people from rural areas seeking tertiary qualifications and can be used for a range of student tertiary expenses.
Jane Bryden, Trustee, said: “The Trust recognises that the extra travel and distance from family that rural students face can be a barrier to tertiary education. These awards go some way towards addressing that barrier.”
The total awarded this year to ten recipients was $10,000, with individual grants of $1,000.

Marie Gibson, Southland. Bachelor of Science- Psychology and
Anatomy/Structural Biology.
- Emma Furniss, Eltham.
Bachelor of Pharmacy.
- Sarah Payne, Waitara. Bachelor of
Applied Science- Agriculture.
- Scott Alexander Davidson,
Stratford. Bachelor of Education- Secondary Teaching,
Physical Education and Mathematics.
- Matthew Ackroyd,
Whitianga. Bachelor of Surveying.
- Clarke Stuart
Cameron, Hawera. Bachelor of Engineering Technology-
Architectural Technology
- Sarah Drought, Opunake.
Bachelor of Commerce- Money & Finance and Economics.

Claire-Elizabeth Ramson, Lake Rotoma. Bachelor of Science
(Technology)- Materials and Process Engineering.
- Keith
Preston, New Plymouth. Bachelor of Surveying.
Successful applicants must be from a rural background, have a proven academic record, a commitment to study and successfully demonstrate an ability to balance study with sport or recreation. Preference is generally given to students studying Electrical Engineering.
