Search underway for exceptional young tourism professional
New Zealand companies and tourism organisations are being urged to nominate up-and-coming managers and operators in the tourism industry for the 2007 PATA Young Tourism Professional Award.
The Award is part of the Tourism Industry Awards, managed by the Tourism Industry Association and recognises inspiring, young individuals who are paving the way in the tourism sector.
PATA NZ Trust Chairperson Neil Plimmer said: "We
need to recognise those talented individuals who are making
an impact in the industry. This
award is about
motivating and encouraging young professionals to stay and
achieve in a sector that is in great shape."
The PATA
Young Tourism Professional Award is open to those working in
the tourism industry under the age of 35 as at the closing
date for
the awards, 5 July 2007. Winners will be
announced in August.
Melissa Crockett, Potiki Adventures director and 2006 award recipient said recognition for this award made a big difference to her business.
"Setting up my own business offering visitor experiences that have a Maori perspective was incredibly hard work. I know that our international visitors really rate what we offer but to receive recognition like this from the New Zealand tourism industry means an enormous amount to me."
Paul Bingham, CEO of Black Cat Cruises and 2003 award recipient agreed:
"This award was a great recognition of our team and the people who helped to get our business to where it is today. The award encourages good people to stay in the industry."
Previous recipients of the PATA Young Tourism
Professional Award include Chris Lamers, General Marketing
Manager of Positively
Wellington Tourism; Malcolm Johns,
CEO of Intercity Group Limited; Richard Wilson, formerly
Tourism Holdings Group; and Simon
Douglas, formerly
