5 Stars to Kaikoura – News Release 2nd May 07
Hapuku Lodge, Kaikoura achieved five stars from Qualmark and becomes Kaikoura’s first accredited five star lodge in their luxury “Guest and Hosted” category. “Kaikoura continues to blossom as a destination and the increasing activity choices draws a wide range of markets. Hapuku Lodge delivers a distinctive accommodation experience, unique in New Zealand, complimenting the spectacular environment and delivering the comforts of an urban hotel”, says GM Rod Ramsay.
The five distinctive Tree Houses have assisted in putting Hapuku Lodge on the map and they continue to bring huge interest in the property as a whole, this Qualmark accreditation further drives the confidence felt on-site. “The recent developments of Tree Houses and redesigned dining room definitely contribute to attaining this Qualmark rating. As new managers we were conscious the service delivery had to go well beyond expectations, or risk being overshadowed by the attention-grabbing design”, states Rod. Rod and partner Belinda started at Hapuku Lodge in October last year, and achieving five stars accreditation reflects the personal influence they’ve already achieved.
Kaikoura’s tourism industry continues to sprout new operators, building on its world renowned reputation as a marine safari and eco-tourism destination. Last year visitors surpassed 900,000 (Tourism New Zealand) and the increase in quality activity options suggests day trips are likely to give way to increased demand for room nights in the region. Nearby Waipara is well underway establishing itself on the wine trail, making Kaikoura an obvious link for tourists travelling between Marlborough and Christchurch, perhaps in need of a break to cleanse their palates.
With a fantastically busy summer behind them, Rod and Belinda will begin to turn some focus on the potential of incentives and events. Hapuku Lodge now accommodates over 30 and the dining room is a flexible mid-sized venue, complimenting the existing boardroom and meeting potential provided by Olive House Apartment. With Kaikoura’s wealth of entertainment options available, this is an obvious direction for this newly primed business.
