Major cool store expansion underway
Auckland-based cool
storage and logistics company, Easy Logistics Ltd has
contracted landlord Urbus Properties to invest $7million in
the expansion of its East Tamaki contract distribution
centre facilities.
The warehouse expansion will provide an additional 4,100 m² freezer/chiller storage and handling space, virtually doubling the company’s present capacity. On track for completion towards the end of May 2007, the new facility is being built by Ebert Construction Ltd.
When completed, the new complex will provide racked pallet spaces for an additional 4,500 frozen and 2,100 chilled products. Featuring a Hamilton Perry designed racking system configured to maximise the available space, the combined warehouses will be able to stack product up to seven layers high. And to ensure safe placement and retrieval of product up to a height of 9.4m, the very latest Jungheinrich double deep reach trucks, with temperature controlled cabs and mast cameras, will be used.
The complex will also feature an Environmental Loadout Area (ELA) of approximately 1,152m², which allows for safe staging and cross docking of product in and out of the facility. The ELA is equipped with six self levelling, air bag-sealed docks to ensure as little delay as possible in meeting clients’ service requirements. Other onsite features include a permanent backup electricity generator, to ensure an uninterrupted power supply is maintained and fully integrated warehouse & freight management software, to help provide optimum control of the entire operation.
Easy Logistics is a MAF approved transitional facility, which is able to de-van imported product and load containers for export, 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday and on weekends, as required. The company also operates a full dairy Risk Management programme.
According to Easy Logistics General Manager, Mike Armour, the company is committed to providing it’s mainly food industry clients with a unique ambient, chilled and frozen ‘one-stop-shop’ logistics service. “In addition to offering our state-of-the-art storage and handling facilities, we partner with co-located refrigerated transport operator, Blue Ice Logistics - to provide a door-to-door service. And because they are based right here in this complex, our clients can enjoy a later cut-off for product shipments.”
