Jones Means Good Design

Jones Publishing is delighted to announce that its design team won two of the Designer of the Year categories at the Magazine Publishers' Association Awards on Friday night.

Creative director Mary Davy and her staff picked up Designer of the Year gongs in both the Contract and Business/Trade Professional categories, for MOB and NZ Retail respectively.

Jones publishes MOB for Telecom NZ. The judges said this magazine won in the Contract category because "Mary offered the most cohesive and relevant design given the magazine's market audience. The publication is well crafted throughout, with scope for exploring creative solutions when opportunities arise."

Another Jones title, Habitat (produced for Resene) was also a finalist in this category.

NZ Retail came out the winner in the Business/Trade Professional category. The judges felt that "Mary had really made an effort to make NZ Retail stand out in this section, and although the design would probably not carry for a larger more content-heavy magazine, it works well here. The over-all feel of the magazine is one that draws you in, and the structure for the news-bites at the front is great." Jones produces NZ Retail for the New Zealand Retailers Association.

To top it all off, Mary was a finalist in the Designer of the Year - Home & Food category for Dish magazine.

Co-Publisher Julian Andrews says; "These awards are testament to the great group of designers we have working on our titles under Mary's leadership. Too many publishers end up with a house style when it comes to design. We're proud that each new Jones publication ends up with its own unique look and feel."
