Lemon Z Wins Top Global Spirits Award
Lemon Z, New Zealand’s take on the traditional Italian drink, limoncello, has yet again proved its industry clout, taking out gold and silver medals at two of this year’s international spirits competitions.
Lemon Z has recently won a gold medal at the world’s most prestigious spirits competition, the Monde Selection in Brussels. This is in addition to the silver medal it was awarded at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in March.
James Grigg, Founder and Managing Director of Lemon Z says, “We are delighted to once again be recognised by the international spirit society. For the third time since we launched Lemon Z, it has been recognised alongside and above established Italian brands of limoncello.”
The Monde Selection is an International Institute for Quality Selections and was established in 1961 in Belgium. The gold medal was awarded in the ‘Fruit Liqueurs’ section and is the third medal Lemon Z has won since its inception in 2005.
The San Francisco World Spirits Competition was established in 2000 and is the first comprehensive, international spirits competition to be held in the United States annually. Lemon Z was awarded a silver medal in the ‘Spirits and Other Liqueurs’ category, alongside liqueurs such as Grand Marnier, Baileys and Kahlua.
Last year Lemon Z was judged best limoncello at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London. The judges comments were, “Powerfully pungent nose just bursting with fresh lemon. Mouth is alive with lemon flavours and the lemon zestiness is well balanced by just the right amount of sugar sweetness. Underlying hint of attractive bitterness helps the overall appeal. Delightfully refreshing.”
“We believed in Lemon Z from the beginning and to see our hard work being rewarded again and again is an amazing feeling. To be accepted by your peers and to be judged alongside such prestigious and established liqueurs as Grand Marnier and Baileys is incredibly gratifying,” says James.
