Acknowledges Passing Of Samoan Head Of State
16 May 2007
It is with great regret the Pacific Business Trust acknowledges the passing of the Samoan Head of State, King Malietoa Tanumafili II, in Samoa on Friday.
Pacific Business Trust Chair, Pauline Winter, says Malietoa Tanumafili II was an inspirational leader to the people of Samoa. He had led Samoa since it gained independence 45 years ago.
“Malietoa Tanumafili II was one of several great Pacific leaders, including Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, the Maori Queen and King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, the Tongan King, who pioneered a new era of growth and leadership.
“He will be mourned right across the Pacific. The Trust offers its deepest condolences to the people of Samoa.
“Our challenge now, both in the Pacific and Aotearoa, is to continue on the path initiated by these leaders. His legacy is an inspiration for all Pacific people, wherever they reside,” she says.
