Moving Transport Into the Fast Lane!
Welcoming the announcement merging key transport organisations into a single entity, Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO Michael Barnett, agreed that agencies needed to work more collaboratively and with a common purpose.
The extension of the land transport
planning cycle to a 3-year programme and integration of the
funding function under one authority should provide more
certainty to the sector.
“Key to their success, however, will be that during the merger process Transit and Land Transport New Zealand staff do not take their eye off the ball and ensure that the current target to complete the Western Ring Route by 2014 is not disrupted.”
“We have an opportunity to achieve a modern efficient transport sector, with greater cohesion and efficiency. But it is vital that the momentum to implement the projects not be lost sight of.”
